Before you go jumping on our case about predicting a guy who only scored 1 TD last year as a bust for this season, hear us out. There are a lot of owners sliding this name into high slots on their draft board, along with some very hefty statistical predictions. Before being slowed by a high ankle sprain suffered in his first preseason game, this former 1st round selection was hyped to be the next big tight end stud. Our warning to you is not to expect Lewis to meet these highly set expectations.

The Bust Explained

There are so many reasons to stay away from Lewis. For one, he already seems extremely injury prone. He was nagged by injury all of last season, and now he’s been missing time in training camp this year due to various injuries. Even when he was healthy last seasons, Lewis had trouble winning any playing time over George Wrightster. Over the off-season the Jags acquired the very catch-savy tight end Jermaine Wiggins from Minnesota. That really isn’t a show of confidence from the Jags general management.

With all of that said, even if Lewis was the next coming of Christ in the form of a tight end, Jacksonville just isn’t a team that utilizes their ends. They spread the ball around way too much, and their emphasis is on the running game. Throughout the history of the Jacksonville organization, they have yet to have a tight end produce even marginal numbers.

The Risk Factor:

Not much risk factor in avoiding Lewis. His top potential numbers really wouldn’t earn much keep.

The Strategy:

If you are in a league that allows you to take 3 tight ends, that third slot might not be a bad spot for him. Otherwise, stay away.
