Bust - Matt Schaub (HOU)

4 Jul, 2007  Busts

Matt Schaub (QB) - Houston Texans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc8HscHk3jg

We at MoSneaky actually like Matt Schaub. He did a serviceable job over the last several years filling in for Ron Mexico. However, simply put, Houston is a train wreck on offense. They have no offensive line, a 30+ RB and only one legit WR. Houston bet the farm that Schaub is better than Carr, you should not make that same mistake. Don’t expect more than 2500 Yds and 15 TDs from Schaub in 2007.

The Bust Explained

David Carr got a raw deal in Houston. He spent more time on his back than a Heidi Fleiss call girl. The above stats tell the entire story during the Carr era. Houston felt Carr was the reason for the troubles so they sent him packing and anteed up for Schaub. However they did nothing to upgrade the offensive line and the only potential positive was signing 30 something Ahman Green. Granted Green will be an above average RB but the offensive line is where it all starts. Don’t be fooled in thinking this team is going to win more than 4-5 games in 2007.

The Risk Factor:

Schaub should have the lowest yards per completion of any starting QB in 2007. He will not have time to throw the ball and will be forced into short dump plays to save his life. Carr was never hurt after all those seasons of weekly ass kickings.   Scaub may not be as durable.  We at MoSneaky also think Schaub will throw more Ints than TDs. That does not fare well for a starting NFL QB.

The Strategy:

In a 10 or 12 team league Schaub should not even be on your radar. He is best left undrafted and used only as an injury play from the free agency wire. No need to draft him unless you get hit with the injury bug and need a QB mid season. He should still be around.

How can you list Matt Schaub as a bust but have Owen Daniels as a breakout player? These two should have parallel movement. Please explain.

    Not necessarily.

15 TDs is our projection for Schaub. This is not exactly what you want to be receiving from your starting QB.

7 TDs and 500 yards is are projection for Owen Daniels.
This fairly impressive for TE you can get fairly late in the draft.

What we are saying is Owen is going to be one of the few highlights on that offense.

I see what you’re saying. So, I guess we shouldn’t expect more from Andre Johnson than the 1,100+ yards and 5 TDs he had last year. Would you consider that a bust, or a draw?

    Likely a draw.

Andre Johnson is talented enough to maintain a decent production level. Just don’t expect it to increase.
