It’s not easy to knock one of the top scoring kickers in the league, let alone try to discourage you from selecting him altogether. However, we’d like to pre-empt this public service announcement with a small disclaimer that that isn’t what we are trying to do. What we do want to do is prevent you from wasting an early pick on him. If placing the “Bust” stamp on poor old Robbie is what it takes to accomplish that, then fuckin-a, that’s what we’re gonna do.

The Bust Explained:
Gould compiled some huge stats last year, however, the stock pile was built up early in the season. Once the Bears offense got on track (about week 8-9), they weren’t relying on their kicking game so much. Gould is an accurate kicker, with a booming leg. The majority of his kicks came from a longer distance last year. Most of that was due to the fact that the Bears offense went practically limp once they got inside the 35 yard line. Once the Bears re-adjusted in the mid-season though, they just stopped attempting those deep kicks.

We’re also going to go out on a limb here, and guess that Gould will miss a few kicks this year. Being perfect for two years in a row is nearly impossible, unless you are Jessica Biel’s ass.

The Risk Factor:
Let us reiterate, we don’t want to talk you out of taking Robbie Gould. We actually expect him to be good. It’s just that we think he will be on the lower end of the top 10. Most owners base their kicker draft pick strictly off of last years stats. That means that Gould will likely be the first kicker taken in your draft, and mark our words, when he is taken it will be WAY too early.

The Strategy:
If you have him as a keeper, consider trading him while his stock is at its peak.
