Devery Henderson (WR) Saints

It’s a little known fact that the movie “Harry and the Hendersons” was actually based upon Devery’s childhood, in which he befriended a yeti, which later turned out to be John Madden after a week long bender. That aside, Henderson makes for an intriguing selection, this year.

The Break Out Explained
Joe Horn is gone. And with that, last year’s rookie phenom, Marques Colston, appears to be the heir apparent to the #1 role. We aren’t so sure about that. Colston may get the most catches, but we’re going to bet he doesn’t get the most yards. Henderson has shown the ability to get downfield and make plays, something Colston sorely lacks. And if you take a look at Colston’s stats, you’ll see that he was on fire for the first half, and cooled off dramatically once defenses starting keeping a little closer eye on him. 7 or Colston’s 8 TDs were scored in the first half of the season. On the other hand, Henderson did nothing in the first half. Hell, he barely had 100 yards after the first 7 games. He really stepped it up around midseason, and performed well the rest of the year. Now that Henderson will be an every down player, you can bet your ass his stats are going to rise.

The Risk Factor:
We are pretty confident in Henderson. Typically, you need to be a little bit careful, when a vertical style receiver gets thrust into an every down role. Sometimes they just don’t have the route running skills to excel on the short to intermediate routes. We’ve seen enough of Henderson to feel confident in the fact that he can make plays in those areas. It doesn’t hurt that he’s on an offense that will throw the ball a LOT. Even if he only catches deep balls, that’s going to add up to a lot of points.

The Strategy:
Let the other suckers blow an early pick on Colston. You can snag Henderson much later, and probably get the same, if not better, production.
