MoSneaky - Joe Jurevicius (CLE)
Joe Jurevicius (WR) Cleveland Browns
Ever the journeyman, Jurevicius joined the Browns last year, making it his 3rd
team in as many years. While JJ tends to get overlooked by most everyone, he may in fact have a decent amount of fantasy value.
The Breakout Explained
Jurevicius has never been a full time starter, for the most part. He’s always been stuck in a 3rd WR role, or acting as a fill-in for an injury. This year he should win the #2 job outright. With guys like Josh Cribbs and Travis Wilson as the competition, Jurevicius should start, as long as he stays healthy. So you’re probably thinking, what exactly is the #2 WR position in Cleveland worth, from a fantasy perspective? Given the current QB situation, and the fact that there are already a couple good targets in Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr., you’re probably not envisioning not a goldmine, eh? Well, we think you’ll end up being pleasantly surprised by Jurevicius. If you look at the 8 games he started last year, he caught 33 balls for 329 yards and 2 TDs. We’re assuming you can multiply that by 2, with a fair amount of accuracy. What we really like about Jurevicius is that he is a gamer, and he is a huge target around the end zone. He notched 10 TDs for the Seahawks 2 years ago.
The Risk Factor:
Jurevicius could flop. It’s definitely possible. Clevelands QB situation is up in the air. Charlie Frye is passable at best, and Quinn will need a lot of learning time. We don’t really forsee a huge amount of offensive output from this squad. It’s possible that Edwards and Winslow will get all the action, leaving very little for Joey. Let’s also not forget that Jurevicius has struggled with injuries throughout his career. However, since you’ll be able to pick up Jurevicius VERY late in your draft, what do you have to lose?
The Strategy:
Jurevicius isn’t going to be a superstar. We aren’t saying that. But he can give you some very solid production from the 4th+ WR position. In deeper leagues, it’s very important to find guys like this, that will get you some points on your starters’ bye weeks and give you some insurance against injuries.
