Most people are understandably skittish to jump on some big-ass, white-boy receiver. It makes sense, after all, how long has it been since the last Steve Largent has been in the league? But this Arkansas (see: Red Neck) native, and former first round pick, really started to come into his own late last season. As Wilford continues to be overhyped, and Reggie Williams continues to underachieve, the true hidden gem in that mix will be this big, huggable, honky.

The Break Out Explained

Up until he was injured in week 7, Reggie Williams was the star of the receiving corp, scoring 4 TDs in his first 5 games. After the injury though, Williams completely disappeared. Considering Williams missed mid-May passing drills due to a nagging hamstring injury, we just don’t think he’s going to be returning to his early ‘06 form. That leaves Wilford, who in his now 4th season, has failed to impress us at all.

Jones ended with decent stats for the season:

You should also note that these numbers come after missing a few games due to injury. By the end of the season Jones was really beginning to break-out, as he pulled in 4 TDs in his last 6 games. Jones is now in his 3rd season for the Jags. A number often seen as magical year for receivers. While we don’t foresee him becoming the next Steve Largent, he will definitely think he will continue to improve his game, and get closer to #1 WR numbers.

The Risk Factor:

Williams is the real threat in Jacksonville. If he is able to fully heal from injury, he will share the majority of receiving production.

The Strategy:

Jones sat out the bulk of the Jaguars’ off-season workouts with a quad injury. However, he’s back on the field for training camp. Keep a close eye on this one, and draft accordingly.
