MoSneaky - Rex Grossman
Rex Grossman (QB) - Chicago Bears
Be grateful for the Chicago’s mosneaky coverage this week, because you are getting a twofer. That’s right, two mosneakys for the price of one. Not that you spendthrifts are paying anything for this anyway, but maybe in compensation you could consider sending us a few naked pictures of your mom. But we digress. On to the show…
The Break Out Explained:
We know what your thinking. And yes, we’re talking about “The Rex Grossman”. The same chump who was blamed for every loss last season, including the big one at the Super Bowl. The fact remains, the general public (and especially the semi-retarded football covering media) have it in for Rex. Don’t get us wrong, there’s good reason to hold a grudge against Grossman. After all, he’s from Florida. Everybody from Florida is an asshole. More importantly though, he was supposed to be the “Great White Hope” for the seemingly permanently vacant QB position that Chicago holds, and then he spends his first three seasons suffering from vaginal yeast infections (and other injuries of the like).
With all this hating going on, it’s easy to overlook the important facts, and we’ll break this down nice and slow for those of you already on the “Rex Grossman Hate Wagon”:
- This was his first full season played. And whether you like it or not, it was a successful one.
- Less you forget, he took his team to the Super Bowl!.
- For his first full season in the NFL, these are some impressive stats RAT 73.9 | YDS 3,193 | TD 23
Are you on board yet? Fuckin’ right you are!
Rex is smart, mature, and fits perfectly into the Chicago offensive system. He has no where to go but up, and if that means improvement on his already impressive stats, that easily puts him into the top 10 (maybe even 5) fantasy quarterbacks.
The Risk Factor:Â
The loss of Thomas Jones definitely isn’t going to help. Jones was a hammer as a receiver out of the backfield, and Benson can catch about as well as a two-hooked drunken pirate named “Clubby”. The good thing is that Chicago did acquire some players in the draft that could help pick up the slack. Greg Olson (TE) will be a nice addition that will give them a new target for the short game. They also drafted midget runningback Garrett Wolfe (5′7 - 177lbs) from Northern Illinois. He is a tiny speedster (David Meggett’esc) who could be a great third down receiver out of the backfield. If anything though, the loss of Jones could be a blessing in disguise. Benson will not be splitting carries, so they won’t always have a fresh RB to go to when they get inside the red zone, so they’ll be forced to look for alternatives such as the Tight End
The other risk is the obvious fact that Grossman is injury prone. But really, what QB in the NFL (besides Peyton Manning) isn’t injury prone. Just get a solid 2nd QB to go along with him, and all will be fine and dandy.
The Strategy:
The real value with Grossman is in a fact that we discussed earlier. That fact being that people hate him.
You will easily be able to snag him in the later rounds of your draft.

Bernard Berrian (WR) - Chicago Bears Much like Grossman, this was really Berrian’s first ever FULL season as a starter. Also similar to Grossman, for his first season, he was impressive. Because the Bear’s offense is so overshadowed by their stellar Defensive game, stars like Berrian were easily overlooks. Well, unless you have god-like scouting ability like us.
The Break Out Explained
To lead this off, we want you to first look at these stats:
RECÂ 51 | YDSÂ 775 | TD 6
Not too shabby, huh? Now let us remind you that he pulled in these numbers with missing almost 3 full games.

Berrian is now in his forth season, which is usually about the time that receivers breakout. He grew stronger and stronger as the season progressed, and was especially impressive in the post season. Berrian scored 6 TDs in his last 8 games. If he can continue this romp going into the ‘08 season, we could have a major stud on our hands.
The Risk Factor:
Berrian’s biggest risk lies in hands of Grossman’s health. If Rex does go down (which he’s shown the capability to in the past), Berrian’s stock will plummet.
The Strategy:
Berrian’s talent isn’t widely known, so he should slip farther in the draft than he deserves. However, there are one or two die hard Bear fans in every fantasy league. Put an asterisk next to these owners on your draft day worksheet, and draft accordingly.
