MoSneaky -Willis McGahee

Willis McGahee (RB) - Baltimore Ravens

When considering McGahee, you have to be as fragile as the brittle chicken legs that Willis himself stands on. At any moment those reconstructed knees could just decide to give out, and you are left holding one big useless pile of pooh. Then again, if you just overlook him because you are a fucking coward, you could be missing out on a big opportunity. This season the reward far outweighs the risk, and we are giving you the big green light to jump on the “Whatchu-Talkin’ Bout” Willis McGahee band wagon.

The Break Out Explained
Each of the last five years, the Ravens have put up some of the highest team rushing stats in the league. They are committed to the run, and this season, things are not going to change a bit.

The new environment that McGahee is walking into is fertile ground for a break out season. In Buffalo he suffered year after year in an offense plagued by youth and incompetence. He will now be behind a much stronger and consistent offensive line, and a quarterback whose best talent is his ability to limit mistakes.

So now the only question that remains is, why were the Bills so eager to trade him?
We don’t think there is a big hidden secret about the Bills willingness to rid themselves of their only runningback, and to do so for such a modest return (2 third-round picks, and a seventh rounder). McGahee was becoming openly disenchanted with the Bills failure to succeed, and he was coming up on his contract season. It just made sense for both parties involved to make the deal happen before it was too late.

The Risk Factor:
McGahee has a bigger risk of injury than most players, however, if you follow our draft strategy (below) you can really minimize the risk.

The Strategy:
McGahee has a fairly capable backup in Mike Anderson. Most people wouldn’t touch Anderson with a 10-foot pole, so you can basically pick him up in the very late rounds of the draft. If you are able to acquire McGahee in your draft, make sure to pick up Anderson as an insurance policy in case Willis goes down.

In response to the comments pasted at the end…

On many accounts we have to agree with you. We’d be lying if we admit that part of the reason we chose McGahee as a “sleeper” is the total void of other potential candidates on Baltimore. They have a complete lack of offensive weapons this year, and if there is one contender to improve most drastically upon his ‘06 numbers, it would be McGahee. Which leads us to the next point…

Based strictly on his 2006 numbers, McGahee doesn’t deserve to be an early draft pick. You are correct in the assumption that owners will still take him early in drafts, but that is really still on name basis, not because he earned that respect based on his 2006 production.

    In conclusion.
We’re both right. McGahee isn’t much of a stretch. But he will have the best numbers improvement, and is the lone Raven you can expect to accomplish the feat of “self-improvement”.

Thanks for the comments! Keep them coming everyone!
